Living in an apartment while you’re in college doesn’t mean that it has to look plain and boring. There are a few ways that you can spruce up your apartment so that it’s cozy and a place you want to have friends and family visit.
Decorations
Whether you put pictures on the walls or put figurines on countertops, adding a few decorations while living in UMD off campus housing can showcase your personality. You can usually find inexpensive decorations at thrift stores and can change what’s on display throughout the year as the seasons change and holidays approach so that it feels more like home.
Get Cozy
Since you’ll likely spend an equal amount of time on your couch and in your bed, you should try to make these areas as comfortable as possible. Add a pillow or two to your couch so that there’s a little color in the living room. You can get a comfortable blanket and plush pillows for your bed as well so that you can get a good night’s sleep while living in UMD off campus housing. You could also include a favorite blanket or stuffed animal from home so that it’s easier to make the transition to college.
Scents
The overall scent of your apartment can help put you in a better mood, help you relax, or energize you so that you get work done during the day. If there’s something that reminds you of home, try to find that scent in a candle or a wax melt.
